No Health Insurance-Reality for Many Now

There are more and more people here in this country who struggle through their days with a specific burden to bear. They are those who have no health insurance to cover them in the event of a medical problem.

Most of these people would prefer to have a health insurance plan for their families, instead of worrying everyday about someone getting sick and how they could possibly pay for it.

When our citizens don’t have health insurance, they delay treatment on anything unless it’s critical. Doctor’s are not usually an option for the uninsured, the emergency department is where they go to get medical attention.

The reason this happens is physicians can’t afford to offer treatment if there’s not insurance coverage or there is no upfront payment. Therein is the problem, if a person can’t afford health insurance premiums they usually can’t pay for a doctor visit either.

There the emergency department serves as a last chance for those who are uninsured. Unfortunately by the time some people come into the ER they are more seriously ill than if they had been maintained by a physician over time. These conditions may have steadied or improved if they had been able to go to the doctor.

Health Reform Popular in Poll

Polls done by the Kaiser Family Foundation each month track public opinion regarding health care and health insurance. Results from these can be eye opening, and provide an opportunity to observe where the public stands on these issues.

As reported by Medical News Today, the results from the April poll are: 36% didn’t go to dentist or doctor check ups because of the cost increases, 71% want taxes raised for high income Americans in order to pay for health care reform, 59% expressed that health care reform has become more necessary now, 26% had an individual in their home who had a hard time paying medical bills this past year, and 67% strongly or somewhat favor a nationalized health insurance plan to create competition for the private plans.

Public opinion is becoming more obvious now as in regards to the actions being taken regarding health care and health insurance reform. In addition, many more are feeling the weight of the rising costs in health care.

The lawmakers who are ready to send the health care reform through the process are very happy with these results. As the Kaiser poll indicates, there will be support from the majority, and with this support will be ability for them to push the sweeping reform through the process.

Of course, this is not a done deal due to this poll. It’s a glimpse of how the public feels right now, but opinion is always subject to change quickly, as the economic issues change day to day. Also there is the issue of the Democrats and the Republicans trying to agree on how the reform will work.

A Few Pointers To Assist In Reducing The Price Of Your Health Insurance

A health care plan does not have to cost an arm and a leg nowadays and here we will look at just a few of the ways in which you can lower your costs.

Sticking to a healthy life style has many benefits and one of these that is often overlooked is that of bringing down the cost of your health insurance plan. Take exercise regularly, follow a healthy diet, try to avoid smoking and heavy drinking and you will not only cut back on the number of visits you need to make to your doctor but will also be seen as a far lower risk by the insurance companies.

It is also a good idea to purchase a health insurance policy earlier rather than later because premiums alter greatly with age. Taking out a health insurance plan at the age of 25 will not only cost you much less than buying the same policy at the age of 50 but you might also benefit from lower costs the longer you remain with an insurance company.

You are also often able to reduce your premiums by arranging plans with high deductibles. The deductible is money that you pay towards your medical treatment and provided you are generally healthy and do not fall ill often then this may well save you money. You have to be careful though as if you are likely to require treatment, maybe because you have a history of medical problems, then a health policy with a high deductible may not be of benefit.

Shopping around for a suitable insurance plan is also recommended. There are various different types of plan being sold nowadays and hundreds of insurance companies to pick from which means that there is fierce competition for your business. Do not simply pick the first plan that you are offered but look around and get the best plan for your circumstances at a good price.

Finally, do not be afraid to seek advice from an independent insurance agent. Insurance agents work every day with a a very large number of different insurers across the country and can save you not only a great deal of money but also considerable time by matching up your specific needs to the insurance policies presently available on the market.
